Our Story

CPL Technologies was born out of nearly five decades of field experience, problem-solving, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.

Our roots trace back to Cable Pipe & Leak Detection, founded in 1976 as a specialized leak detection company at a time when most diagnostics relied more on guesswork than precision. From the beginning, CPL focused on one thing: finding problems accurately without unnecessary damage. That philosophy shaped everything that followed.

Over the decades, Cable Pipe & Leak Detection grew into the leading leak detection and utility locating company in Southern California, trusted by plumbers, contractors, developers, municipalities, property managers, and institutions alike. That growth wasn’t driven by marketing hype—it was earned through repeatable processes, disciplined training, and technicians who understood both the science and the art of underground locating.

As technology evolved, so did CPL. But one challenge remained constant: the tools available to technicians often lagged behind real-world field conditions. Equipment was either over-engineered and impractical or under-designed for daily professional use. The people who understood these shortcomings best were the ones in the field every day.

That realization led to the creation of CPL Technologies.

CPL Technologies is the product-development arm built on CPL’s real-world experience. Every tool we design is informed by decades of field data and designed, tested, and refined by some of the best leak detection and utility locating technicians in the business. Our products aren’t theoretical—they’re built to solve actual problems encountered underground, on job sites, and under pressure.
